I have a new and improved online home.  You are invited to move over with me!

Please visit me at my new website where I will blogging 3 times a week.  You can either visit:

and you will be saturated with new resources to help you succeed in your life and marriage!

Can’t wait to see you there!

Fresh off my high of a fun interview on FamilyLife Today, I sat in seat 17D, awaiting takeoff.  I opened my book by Og Mandino, A Better Way to Live.  Here’s what I read:

Be forever on guard against the terrible traps of false pride and conceit that can halt your progress.  The next time you are tempted to boast, just place your fist in a full pail of water, and when you remove it, the hole remaining will give you a correct measure of your importance.

Isn’t that the perfect thing to read after finishing taping a national radio interview?  I love how God sends me clear messages!

Then, more humble circumstances…I was flying into Dallas but DFW was stopping all flights because of hail.  We sat in the plane for 2 hours in Little Rock, then de-planed for 1 hour, and then got on again.  I was hungry, thirsty, and tired.

Landing in Dallas 3 hours late, I thought it would be no problem to get my connecting flight to San Diego since the whole airport was experiencing delays.  It was about 10:45 pm.

I said to the airline attendent giving connecting flight info at the gate, “San Diego.”

He said, “A-35.  RUN!”

We were at Terminal C, gate 11.  I took off frantically running in my sandals, dragging my suitcase, towards the sky train.  I waited (what can you do to make a sky train go faster?).  I boarded the sky train, got off at the second stop and started running towards A – 35.

As I got closer, my heart sank.

There was no one waiting at the gate.

“Am I too late?”  I sputtered to the gate agent.

He said, “You made it.”  I look at the departure time.  It said 10:50 pm.  It was now 10:53 pm.

He had to give me a new boarding pass because my seat had been given away.  And then he said that word again.

Run?  Here we go again – I ran down the walkway which was about 4 times as long as the walkways in San Diego.  It went to the left, then to the right, then to the left, finally I stepped on that plane.

I thought first class should break into applause – I had made it!  I was going home and not spending the night at DFW!

Instead, I think everyone was irritated that they had to wait for me to find my seat after a long, arduous day of traveling for everyone at DFW.

When I plunked down in my seat, my heart was full of joy.  I had prayed, “God, let me go home tonight.  Get me on that airplane” and He did.

Chances are, you’ve had inconveniences and close calls this week too.  What have they been or have you ever had a close call at the airport?

What a blast I had at Family Life Today!  Here I am with hosts Dennis Rainey and Bob Lepine.  These men are down to earth, full of wisdom, and very funny!  If you’ve ever listened to Car Talk, these guys can go back and forth with each other like Click and Clack!

See, they like what I am saying about the book 31 Days to a Happy Husband

We talked about what the letters DREAM stand for in my book:

Domestic Tranquility

Mutual Activities

Dennis asked me many questions like, “What does James think about that?”  so you’ll be hearing a lot about my own marriage during the radio program.  James and I were in the hot seat today!

My interview is scheduled to air in September.  I will be sure to keep you posted.  I am so grateful for the opportunity to partner with FamilyLife Today to strengthen families – what an honor to be here today!

And then I got some icing on the cake.  The Lord encouraged me to keep at it in writing when I passed by the Little Rock Airport bookstore and saw my title 31 Days to a Younger You on the shelf!   What a sweet last image as I prepare to fly out.

This morning I was interviewed on blog talk radio on CWLxPress (Christian Womens Lifestyle Express) with Deanetta Thompson.  We talked about…

What to do when you look in the mirror and feel unattractive

How to make small inexpensive changes to look younger

Why does appearance matter anyway?

What to do when you’re tired of diets and exercising?

You can listen in on the conversation here.  I hope you’ll be encouraged and get a few positive action steps to use this week.

My sister-in-law introduced me to the wonder of hot rollers.  Put your hair up for a few minutes, remove rollers and voila!  Hair is done!  I love it.

Well, one of my clips has been slowing losing each of its teeth.  Every time I go on a trip and put the clip in the suitcase, I think it comes back with a little less clip.

As you can see, it’s barely got any teeth to grab my hair and the hot roller!  But dutifully, I kept using it, trying to see how long I could get it to do the job.

Finally, I am giving up.  I am throwing the clip away.

Isn’t it funny how we can try the same thing that isn’t working over and over again?  Duh, the roller kept on falling out of the clip because there were no teeth to hold it.  I should have thrown the clip away a week ago.

We cling to routines – even routines that aren’t working.  That’s insanity!

What in your life needs to be tossed and exchanged for something that works?

I thoroughly enjoyed doing a segment this morning at 6:45 am on the NBC news here in San Diego.  It was nice to finally be there since we had scheduled two previous times for me to come on the show, but both segments had been bumped (once by the death of Osama bin Laden which was quite understandable).

Reporter Megan Tevrizian is wonderful.  She was professional and easy to interview with.  We talked about how you can turn back the clock by boosting your brain power.  Lift some mental muscle by:

1. Learning a new language (even a few new words will do!).

2.  Playing like a kid again.  Build Legos and blocks with your kids and grandkids.

3.  Puzzle power!  Do a jigsaw puzzle, sudoku or crossword puzzle.

4.  Do something different day.  Break your routine by eating somewhere different at lunch, opening doors with your non-dominant hand, or driving a different way to work.

5.  Learn something new everyday.  You can look up a new word in the dictionary.  I looked up “Prexy.”  Know what it is?  Slang for a president, usually of a college or university.

Thanks NBC for having me on, and thanks to you who were able to tune in and watch!  I’ll be putting video up on my website but it may take me awhile to do that.  This month is writing time for my next book 31 Days to a Happy Husband!

We had a great Father’s Day yesterday at church and then with friends at a park.  Here’s the super daddy himself in all his glory.  Check out Ethan’s funny eyes…he thinks his sister is an alien!

Here’s what the kids looked like last year on Father’s Day – it all goes so fast…

The change is most apparent in Lucy – no surprise there.  She is such a happy girl.  I was most surprised yesterday at the picnic as she walked up to people she had never met, asked for their food, cuddled up to them, sat in laps – it was amazing!  She made friends very easily!

So if you need to make some new friends this summer, walk up to someone and:

  • Ask to try their food
  • Smile and cock your head to the side
  • Hug strangers

But you probably don’t want to sit in any laps!

Here’s Lucy in someone’s chair (right, not ours).  She’s lookin’ pretty comfy eh?

Three cheers for my sweet James who, as I wrote on my card, is the “alpha dog, french toast maker, piano teacher, Costco taker, fun maker, soccer player, rule enforcer, and super great father!”
