Arlene Pellicane – Christian Speaker and Author

Archive for December 2010

Okay, I admit it.  My stomach hurts.  Not because I’m sick, but because my pants are too tight when I sit down.  Somewhere between Christmas dinner, constant desserts and a steady flow of Christmas cookies, I got a little carried away.  I have a feeling I’m not alone!  Maybe I can discover a new disease:  “Santa-belly-itus.”

The New Year is around the corner and of course, all the promises of “I will eat better in the New Year.  I will exercise.  I will diet.  I will fast.  I will…”

I want to help you with those “I wills…”

The month of January will kick off the release of  my book 31 Days to a Younger You.  To celebrate, I will be blogging each day in January.  Everyday will have a tip from a chapter in my book and some insider information that you won’t find anywhere else.  I hope you’ll enjoy reading and get the help you need to make your dreams come true in 2011 !

Happy New Year friends!

Beth H., you are the winner!  Congrats and enjoy your makeup, compliments of super Mary Kay consultant Tina Smith.  If you want to try some new looks in the New Year, shop at Mary Kay’s website and get Tina to help you.  She gives excellent customer service!

More makeup to win in January!!!

Okay, being an author can be glamorous, but allow me to give the other side. 🙂

I had my first opportunity to sell my book at a San Diego Professional Women’s Fellowship Christmas luncheon and bazaar (PWF is great if you live in San Diego, check it out!).  The event started at 12:00 pm and I arrived around 11:00 am to set up my table.

I don’t own a luggage cart yet but believe me, after yesterday’s schlepping around and making multiple trips to my car which was parked far away, I will be putting that on the top of my Christmas list! I carried in my BIG, HEAVY box of books ready to sell.  By the time I got my things to the table, I had a good sweat going on.  I noticed all the other vendors were already done setting up which made me more nervous, which made me more sweaty.

I hurried to set up and then proceeded to wait.  There was no need to hurry after all.  I thoroughly enjoyed talking with the women and sharing my book.  The highlight was that my mentor Pam Farrel was also there and we could celebrate my first book table together!  Wahoo!

Then after the event, it was time to repack the boxes and make my way to my car.  And then do the trip again.  Sweating again.

So the next time you see an author with his or her books at a table, please stop by and say hi.  It makes all the schlepping worthwhile!!!

God is so faithful!  My dream of becoming a writer came true today when boxes of books arrived at my home!  31 Days to a Younger You: No surgery, No diets, No kidding is here!

In 2006, I made a goal to write a manuscript.

In 2007, I met writer Pam Farrel who has served as my amazing mentor.  Pam encouraged my writing and showed me the ropes.

In 2009, I signed a book contract with Harvest House Publishers in May.  The book was due in October, one week shy of having baby Lucy.

And today, I received a beautiful Christmas present.  My book in black and white.  My highlight was how excited my daughter Noelle was to see her name in the book.  That was the best!  I read stories about her from the book and she thoroughly enjoyed the attention which surprised me.  I figured she’d get a kick out of being in a book years from now, but now at 4 years old, she’s already happy!

Here are some more pictures from the big day.  The opening of the first box…

Some of you pre-ordered books from me at speaking events.  Here I am signing the books.  I really enjoyed doing this!!!

I hope to sign one for you soon!  🙂

Here’s Ariel at Disneyland with my daughter Noelle who was celebrating her 4th birthday.  Waiting in the long line was worth it when Ariel was so sweet and conversational with Noelle.

“Oh, what a nice hat.  May I try it on? asked Ariel.

“Sure.”

Laughing, “Hmm, how does it look?”

It was really a sweet moment followed by this one.

I must admit I am enjoying this princess phase with Noelle.  She loves coloring princesses, dressing up, and reading books about princesses.  When we go back to fairy tale land – whether it’s going to Disneyland with a child or reading a book to a granddaughter or simply watching an old movie like Snow White – we’re transported to a different place.  We feel younger.  It’s never too late to enjoy a princess tale.  After all, we are daughters of the King!
